BR girls soccer banquet

A famed name from the past presented an award to a name that could gain fame in the future.

The Bridgewater-Raritan High School girls’ soccer team held its annual banquet to celebrate the season on Wednesday evening, December 11, at the Bridgewater Manor.

Coach Sean Casey, who guided the team to a 14-9 record and its second straight trip to the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 state tournament sectional final this fall, shared the pleasant moments from the banquet affair.

“ One of many highlights of the evening was the return of former captain Hayley Soriano, Class of 2016,” he said.

Coach Casey further spoke about Soriano and her sparkling career.

“Hayley was a four-year varsity player for Coach Chris Gerber. As a sophomore, she was a member of the 2013 state championship team. She was also a two-year captain. In her senior year, she was voted one of the top 20 players in New Jersey by the New Jersey Girls Soccer Coaches Association and was named a regional All-American. After graduating from Bridgewater-Raritan High School, Hayley played for four years at Dartmouth College, where she served as a two-year captain and led the school’s women’s soccer program to back-to-back double-digit victory seasons during her junior and senior years.”

As the guest of honor at the banquet on December 10, she gave an inspirational/motivational speech to the players and audience.

According to Coach Casy, she then, on behalf of the girls' soccer alumni, presented the "We Play For Those Who Came Before Us" to sophomore Mikaela Perez.

Coach Casey predicts a great future for Perez.

“Mikaela just completed her second season on varsity, where she started every game this past season. Mikaela should become one of the area's top players over the next two seasons.”
