A busy—and highly productive weekend—was capped by a first-place finish for the Bridgewater-Raritan High School Marching Band.
The Bridgewater-Raritan High School Marching Band, under the tireless guidance of Directors Nick Mossa and Dr. Tom Bourgault, posted a score of 75.2 and received the Class 3 Caption awards for Best Visual performance and Best Overall Effect, while it claimed first place in the New Jersey Marching Band Directors Association competition at J.P Stevens High School in Edison on Saturday evening, October 3.
Bridgewater-Raritan emerged as the winner against a formidable field in Class 3 that featured Piscataway High School, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, Metuchen High School and East Brunswick High School.
This championship showing came after the Marching Band’s drumline performed on the morning of Friday, October 2, when they joined members of the high school football team and cheer squad to greet students off the bus in front of the school, a showing that kicked off Homecoming Weekend.
Then the Marching Band played the tunes for the musical chairs competition at the lively Pep Rally held on Friday afternoon at Basilone Memorial Field
The Marching Band continued to shine on Friday night when the group debuted their full 2026 program "BOUND BY BONES" at halftime of the homecoming football game, which Bridgewater-Raritan ended up as a 35-18 winner over Hunterdon Central Regional High School at Basilone Memorial Field.
The Marching Band’s next competitive appearance will be at the New Jersey Marching Band Directors Class Championships on Saturday, October 24, at Piscataway High School.
Then, Bridgewater-Raritan will compete for the Garden State Cup on Sunday, November 1, at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, an event that will conclude the Marching Band’s competitive season.
"The students worked so hard this week to keep up with our goals to grow our program while also showing up to make a positive impact in our school community,” Mr. Mossa said. “Earning first place at the JP Stevens competition is an awesome way to celebrate all of their effort & is well deserved!
