Students earned the bragging rights for 2026 at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.
On a beautiful and warm Tuesday afternoon, inside Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s Vaughn Stapleton Gymnasium, the 5th Annual Student v.s. Staff volleyball game was hotly contested.
This lively affair was sponsored again by the Bridgwater-Raritan High School Student Council and coordinated by its two advisors, Michele Mammone and Sarah Cleary.
Ms. Mammone provided an in-depth report on what was an energetic afternoon for both students and staff members.
“An intense 5-set game kept the fans and players on the edges of their seats the entire time. The first set ended in an easy student victory, and when asked, staff member Victor Smoke responded, “Oh, that loss? We’re just warming up.”
The second set proved that Mr. Smoke was correct.
“The teachers ran away with the second set, giving the students a reason to rethink their lineup. The students came back with a stronger lineup, an offense led by Jack Collins, and a defense led by Sharvan Urs.”
“However, the teachers maintained a composed, functional lineup throughout the game. Key players like Jessica Kaiser and Zach Bray helped them pull away when they gathered momentum. The sides went back and forth, leaving the game to a 5th deciding set, with the winner taking it all.”
“With a couple more tweaks on the student side and the teachers remaining calm and composed, both sides battled back and forth like never before.”
“ Going from 1-5 staff to 10-7 students to 11-13 staff. These shifts perfectly illustrated how unclear this game was, as it could go either way.”
Ms. Mammone concluded.
“Students walked away with the win this year, but will the teachers be able to bring it back and take the win next year?”
