Students in the Advanced Placement (AP) program participated in seminar presentations to meet the requirements for their total assessment in the course at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.
The AP Seminar students are delivering their individual presentations that began on Tuesday, April 14, and will run through Friday, April 17.
The AP Research students will present their individual sessions from Monday, April 20, through Wednesday, April 22, and then again on Friday, April 24.
All of these presentations were held in the Bridgewater-Raritan High School Library Classroom A/B.
The AP Seminar course requires two presentations — one team presentation in the winter and one individual presentation in the spring—and the AP Research calls for a single individual presentation on an inquiry topic that students explore throughout the entire school year
For their presentations in the seminar, the students must identify, investigate, and analyze an academic or real-world problem or issue; consider options and alternatives; and present and defend a proposed solution(s) or resolution(s). Each student will deliver an eight-minute presentation and then participate in a short oral defense.
For their AP Research presentations, students select a topic and develop a research question that contributes to a scholarly conversation. Students conduct a literature review and develop a research methodology to gather data to address their questions. Students complete a 20-25 page paper and create a 15-20 minute oral presentation to share what they have learned.
The students addressed the issues at stake—and then they applied their tackles.
This process of discussing and then offering options to solve worldwide issues is shared with a group of teachers, who, in turn, ask questions about their problem-solving options.
During the AP Seminar sessions, the defense took the form of questions posed by the Bridgewater-Raritan High School AP Seminar Teachers Sarah Cleary, Lori Kendis, Jim Challandes, and Abigail Sorge.
At the AP Research presentations during the week of April 20, Dr. Kathy Messano and Andrew Clark will serve as the AP Research Teachers, providing the questions.
Here is the list of students and the issues they will speak on.
