The lights shined bright on Broadway Night at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.
The annual Broadway Night was held again over two nights, Wednesday, February 25, and Thursday, February 26, when the Bridgewater-Raritan High School Choir program served as the gracious host to the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School, Eisenhower Intermediate School, and Hillside Intermediate School students, who performed on the stage of the high school auditorium.
Lisa Rotondi, the Director of Choirs at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, is the guiding force behind this production.
“Broadway Night is always such a special evening for our department,” Ms. Rotondi said. “Large and small ensembles from both intermediate schools, middle school and the high school took to the stage and sang music on a theme inspired by Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s Fall Play, "The Outsiders."
Ms. Rotondi explained more about the two-night affair, which was attended by a large audience in the newly renovated high school auditorium.
“ Our theme was -- "Outsiders, Outcasts, and Others: Songs from the Margins," and while the music ranged from bright and cheerful to contemplative and down-tempo, the pieces were united by that common thematic thread.”
The present and the future of the high school choir program performed under the bright lights.
“A favorite moment for me was watching our younger singers display their sincerity and choral excellence in equal amounts,’ Ms. Rotondi reflected. “The ensembles from Grades 5-8 who were featured are all extra or co-curricular clubs, and I am so grateful to my colleagues in Grades K-8 for cultivating such a high level of artistry in a very limited time.”
She added.
“They are the MVPs of this program.”
Ms. Rotondi reported that this year's combined high school choir featured 145 singers in Grades 9-12.
Before the curtain came down, Ms. Rotondi concluded:
“I am thrilled with the growth in our program and look forward to continuing to build our ensembles in the coming years!”
