Bridgewater-Raritan High School is back to where it belongs—on top of the Somerset County Academic League.

Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s Academic League Team completed an undefeated season this winter when it finished 9-0 and claimed the championship of the Somerset County Academic League.

This championship showing comes one year after Bridgewater-Raritan placed third with a 7-2 record.

Just two years ago, Bridgewater-Raritan was crowned Somerset County Academic League champion, sharing the title with Montgomery High School. Both schools ended with an 8-1 record in 2024.

Ten high schools compete weekly in the Somerset County Academic League, which provides a field of questions that students in small groups–usually three to four per school– must answer correctly to earn points.

The competition is broken into two trivia-style games, each with 14 categories. Students are asked the questions by their high school’s team advisor and coaches. The questions cover subjects such as literature, sports, entertainment, science, history, math, the arts, and government.

Bridgewater-Raritan’s Academic League Team is directed by its advisor, Dr. Eleni Arapaki, who is the high school's AP Physics 1 and 2 Teacher.

This championship coach shared her pride in how her gifted students produced this undefeated season.

“To say it was a success would be an understatement,” Dr. Arapaki said. “From early December through mid-February, our students travelled across Somerset County, showcasing their expertise in everything from Newtonian Mechanics to Advanced Calculus to Pop Culture.”

She spoke about how the students will fondly remember this season.

“The season was packed with memories that defined the Academic League experience,” Dr. Arapaki stated. “Navigating the county on school buses and visiting nine different campuses, bonding over pre-match pizza, forming new friendships across grade levels and representing Bridgewater-Raritan High School with maturity, ethos, professionalism and warmth.”

Dr. Arapaki gave credit where credit was due, too, noting that “the students’ success is a testament to the depth of instruction within our school district and the rich extracurricular support provided by Bridgewater-Raritan High School families.”

Jasmine Young, a junior, was thrilled that Bridgewater-Raritan returned to the top of Somerset County after she was a member of last year’s third-place squad.

“It feels really good,” Jasmine said. “We saw a lot of improvement this year. We were very excited to win this year.”

Ethan Pear, a senior, agreed.

“Yes, we did make some big improvements,” said Pear, who was also a member of last year’s team.

Meanwhile, the Bridgewater-Raritan Academic League Junior Varsity Team completed a 6-3 season and finished in a tie for second place with Gill St. Bernard’s School in the Somerset County Academic League JV competition.

"It's been an incredible season," says Dr. Arapaki. "To have both teams perform at such a high level, and with such consistency, is truly exceptional! It speaks volumes about the dedication and talent of these students."
