BRHS at Met

Bridgewater-Raritan High School students in the National Arts Honor Society and AP Art History enjoyed a trip to The Metropolitan Museum of Art on November 24, 2025.

The students all enjoyed seeing historical art and sculptures from centuries ago. The many forms of art found in the museum inspired the students to create their own artwork, offering an outlet for the AP Art History students to learn more about a specific piece and other arts from that time period.

The NAHS students were tasked by their advisor and Art Teacher Sarah Nasson to live draw a piece they found fascinating and replicate it as accurately as possible, while adding their own creativity to it.

On the other hand, the AP Art History students were tasked with a scavenger hunt to locate specific pieces that their teacher, Jason Draine, had assigned them. The art pieces found at the MET varied from Greco-Roman to Old American and Asian art, as well as Afro-American art, each with its unique story.

The students were in continuous awe of the precision and artistry that artisans employed, as well as the intricate designs within the sculptures and everyday items that were used centuries ago.

“It was amazing to view all the works up close, and I really enjoyed being able to sit down and study them closely,” said Amalia Mardquart.

As the NAHS student drew, not only were they replicating a piece they liked, but they learned many elements that they are able to implement into their own work.
