BRHS volley county champ

A team of 16 brought home its first Somerset County championship since 2016.

Bridgewater-Raritan High School's girls' volleyball team won its first Somerset County Tournament championship since 2016 when it defeated Mount Saint Mary Academy in a three-game sweep, 25-18, 25-17, 27-25, on Thursday, October 23, in Bridgewater.

An energetic crowd at the high school’s Vaughn Stapleton Gymnasium roared as Bridgewater-Raritan improved to 22-3 with its impressive performance in the championship round.

Josh Everett, the coach behind this championship showing, shared his reaction to the effort of his squad.

“It has truly been an incredible run for our girls and program. We now have one of the longest winning streaks in the state! This is one of the best Bridgewater-Raritan teams ever, and I am so immensely proud of our student-athletes,” Coach Everett said. “This is our first county championship since 2016, and it is an amazing accomplishment for our school and program.

He continued to praise his team.

“Our captains, Ava Marvuglio and Jahniah Bishop, have carried us with stellar play and incredible leadership all season.”

Coach Everett concluded.

“We are a team of 16, though, and every single girl on our team played a role for this season.”
