BR gym county champ

The Somerset County Tournament girls’ gymnastics championship trophy will reside again at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

This year’s prized hardware signaled the fifth straight year that Bridgewater-Raritan was crowned the girls’ gymnastics champion of Somerset County.

At the Somerset County meet that was held on Friday, October 17, at Montgomery High School, Bridgewater-Raritan scored 108.1250 points to win the title and edge runner-up Hillsborough High School, which scored 107.7750 points.

The championship showing was sparked by Alison Lardieri, who captured the All Around championship. She also won the vault, bars, and floor events.

The coach who has guided this championship run is Julie Zaneto.

“Our team has been working hard, perfecting their routines, upgrading their skills and building confidence, which has definitely impacted their performance in competitions, specifically the county meet,’ Coach Zaneto said. “Coach (Courtney) Barra and I are so proud of the girls.”

Next up for Bridgewater-Raritan will be the state sectional meet at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Edison on Saturday, November 1.

If Bridgewater-Raritan advances from the state sectionals, then it will compete at the state team championship meet on Thursday, November 6, at Brick Memorial High School. The state individual championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 8, at Brick Memorial.

For now, Coach Zaneto and her team will relish their Somerset County championship.

“We had top six finishers in individual events. Winning counties was a full team effort.”

Here is proof of that full team effort and the finishes for the Bridgewater-Raritan gymnasts.
