They got down and dirty and left very informative.
An estimated 150 Bridgewater-Raritan High School students and parents gathered in the school’s large cafeteria on Thursday, October 16, to attend a session titled “The Down and Dirty of College Admission.”
The presentation was delivered by Peter Van Buskirk, a former Dean of Admissions, and assembled by Jessica Kaiser, the high school’s dedicated College and Career Counselor/AP Coordinator.
“Mr. Van Buskirk covered topics about how to start the college process, factors to consider in the admissions process, and provided insight into how applications are reviewed. It was a night filled with valuable information and insight to help parents and students best prepare for what is ahead,” Ms. Kaiser said.
One parent who appreciated the information stated the following to Ms. Kaiser.
“I thought this presentation was excellent, and I wish we had attended this talk last year. I think it is really valuable for students to attend this, as Peter was really engaging and would help students to understand where parents are coming from as well, and why we do all the nagging! This should be more of a "must-attend" talk.”
The parent also shared.
“It was also really useful for seniors - we made some last-minute edits to college supplemental essays, which were very helpful. Also, the finance stuff was very timely. I was put off some college talks last year (Princeton Review-type things) because I assumed they were selling services. Peter was truly independent and very interesting to listen to.”
