Lucia Bolle, a sophomore at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, continues to collect awards for her skills as an artist.
On March 26, Sarah Nassan, Bridgewater-Raritan High School Art Teacher and Advisor to the National Art Honor Society received notice that Lucia was the recipient of two National Medals in the 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for her work called Hello, World, which received a Gold Medal, and her work titled Sorrow - The Weight Of Water, received a Gold medal as well as the New York Life award, giving her a $2,500 scholarship.
According to Christopher Wisniewski, the Executive Director of the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, “nearly 110,000 teens entered more than 310,000 original works of art and writing to the 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Lucia’s work was selected by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts for excellence in originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.”
He also listed the past winners who went on to claim fame as artists.
“Since 1923, the Awards have celebrated teen artists and writers from across the country. You
are now part of that legacy, joining the ranks of notable alumni including Tschabalala Self,
Stephen King, Kay WalkingStick, Charles White, Joyce Carol Oates, Amanda Gorman, and
Andy Warhol—all of whom won Scholastic Awards when they were teens,” Mr. Wisniewski said.
“We are proud to publish your work in our online galleries at artandwriting.org. Your name will also be listed in Yearbook 2025, a companion to our annual art and writing anthologies that feature selections of works by National Medalists,” Mr. Wisniewski said.
Lucia received the prestigious honor of High Merit for her piece titled "The Show,” during the awards ceremony that was held in the Vaughn Eames Gallery at Kean University on the campus in Union this winter.
According to the AANJ, High Merit award winners qualify to move on to nominations to receive the elite New Jersey Governor's Award this spring.
She was also accepted in March into the 2025 National Art Education Association (NAEA) National Art Honor Society (NAHS)/National Junior Art Honor Society (NJAHS) Juried Exhibition.
And her artwork Nostalgia: What Once Was - is on display at the Morris Museum in Morris Township.
