live stream

Play-by-play broadcasts of Bridgewater-Raritan High School basketball games have been brought to you by a team of passionate students.

Jackson Franklin, Colin Ricciardi and Andrew Khait, each a junior, have provided a live stream of Bridgewater-Raritan boys’ and girls’ basketball games all winter.

These broadcasts have been well viewed and well received inside and outside of the Vaughn Stapleton Gymnasium.

“The boys work under the direction of BRTV and we provide the equipment/technical support and Athletic Director Bill Deniz was instrumental in getting this going,” explained Scott Linzer, the Co-Advisor with Chris Black of BRTV and the Filming and Video Editing club at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

So who came up with this brilliant and productive idea?

“I did,” Jackson revealed.

“The HUDL camera in the gym does not provide audio and does not take shots of the scoreboard,” Jackson said about the camera that is stationed at numerous scholastic gyms and athletics fields across the country and records, uploads, and live streams games and practices.”It is not a good way to watch a game.”

So Jackson, who said that he “enjoys watching sports,” offered a solution in October of 2024.

“I thought, let us try to make this happen, and I came up with the idea to live stream ourselves. I spoke with Mr. Deniz.”

He went out and recruited a broadcast team.

“Andrew and Colin know sports and they volunteered.”

This devoted broadcast team reported that they have live-streamed “about 30 games this winter, varsity and junior varsity basketball combined.”

They can be found at the games stationeed up on the top row of the bleachers and their productions can be found on the BRTV YouTube Live Stream.

With the winter season concluded, the next stop on this broadcast trip will be the baseball and boys’ volleyball games this spring.

“We may need more equipment to work at the baseball games but we may have to work with what we have,” the three students all agreed.

Besides equipment, they need more bodies, too.

Jackson and Colin are both members of the Bridgewater-Raritan baseball team that is fresh off of winning the program’s first Group 4 state championship. So they both will be occupied playing and not broadcasting.

“We have to expand the franchise,” Colin admitted.

Andrew will handle the work along with Chris Festa, another junior who has assisted the team during broadcasts.

“We have a couple of other kids who may want to join in,” the threesome said.

Then they reported that they want to make the transition to Basilone Field in the fall and broadcast football games.

Their efforts will be welcomed.

“These guys are dedicated and have done a terrific job on live-streaming events throughout the winter sports season,’ Mr. Linzer said. “We have received nothing but positive feedback from staff and students on their work.”

Below is a clip of one of their broadcasts. The girls’ basketball game this winter is between Bridgewater-Raritan and Delaware Valley Regional High School at the Vaughn Stapleton Gymnasium.
