The Bridgewater-Raritan High School French Club shared a celebration with the students at the Hamilton Primary School.
On February 26, the French Club’s 27 high school students made a special trip to Hamilton and shared the joy of Mardi Gras with six classes of 4th graders. This cultural exchange brought excitement, learning, and plenty of festive fun to both schools.
According to Maria Kostis, a French Teacher at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, the high schoolers led an engaging lesson about Mardi Gras, teaching the younger students about the holiday’s traditions and significance.
“The learning continued with a lively game of Mardi Gras bingo, followed by a hands-on mask-decorating activity. With feathers, markers, and a variety of colorful supplies, the 4th graders created their own festive masks,” Ms. Kostis said. “To add to the celebration, students received beads, pencils, and stickers as prizes, making the experience even more memorable. Smiles and laughter filled the room as students of all ages enjoyed the opportunity to connect and celebrate together.”
Ms. Kostis also reported:
“Following their visit to Hamilton School, the French Club students continued their cultural immersion with a trip to Crêpes du Nord at the mall, where they enjoyed delicious French-style crêpes—a perfect ending to a day dedicated to French culture and community collaboration.”
She concluded:
“This enriching experience was made possible by our Bridgeater-Raritan High School French teachers who work tirelessly to promote the French program in our district. The French Club extends its gratitude to the principal of Hamilton Primary School and the 4th grade teachers for warmly welcoming this partnership.”
