Two Bridgewater-Raritan High School artists were recognized for their talents in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition.

Christine Xu was named a runner-up, while Sharanya Ram received an honorable mention in New Jersey’s Seventh Congressional District competition.

Tom Kean Jr., the U.S. Representative for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional, announced the winners at his Congressional Art Show, which was held in Summit on Sunday, May 5. All student artists who submitted artwork and their families were invited to attend the event.

Christine’s artwork was titled “Mother’s Glassware Collection,” while Sharanya’s submission was titled “Self Portrait In The Heat.”

Christine’s runner-up finish—she shared that placement with a student from Watchung Hills Regional High School, Esme McLaughlin—will result in having her artwork and Esme’s artwork hung alternatively in Rep. Kean’s offices in Washington, DC, and Bernardsville.

The Seventh Congressional District competition winner was Ellie Beaugris of Somerville High School, whose artwork will be hung in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Each art student at the event in Summit received a certificate from Rep. Tom Kean Jr.

Sharanya recently received a prestigious award when she was named the Governor’s Award winner of the 2024 Visual Art Student Achievement Award.
