High school football team is defeated by Watchung Hills, 3814, on Sept. 22

Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s football team held the lead late in the half but Watchung Hills Regional High School took control and surged to a 38-14 victory on Thursday night at Basilone Field in Bridgewater.

The host Panthers had gained a 14-7 lead late in the second period after Joe Spirra connected with Matt Maciolek for a 68-yard TD pass and then Drew Davis scored on a 7-yard run to the end zone.

The touchdown run by Davis was set up by Colin Kurdyla, who picked off a pass and returned the interception 55 yards. Spirra hit Kurdyla for the conversion for the 14-7 edge by Bridgewater-Raritan. But Watchung Hills struck fast with a TD and field goal to gain a 17-14 edge at the break.

Watchung Hills dominated the second half to secure the victory.

Next up for Bridgewater-Raritan will be on Friday, September 30, when Ridge High School pays a call.
