High school football team edges Hunterdon Central, 14-7, on Sept. 16

A late touchdown run that was followed by a game-sealing interception proved to be the difference when Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s football team defeated Hunterdon Central High School, 14-7, Friday night, September 16, in Flemington.

Bridgewater-Raritan snapped a 7-7 tie when Antoine Hinton plowed three yards into the end zone and Sam Valeira kicked the conversion with 3:22 left in the fourth quarter. 

Hunterdon Central threatened but Matt Maciolek came through with an interception on his own 18 to clinch the victory with 51 seconds to play. The victory lifted the Panthers to a 2-2 record while Hunterdon Central also left with a 2-2 record.

Bridgewater-Raritan had held a 7-0 lead at halftime when Joe Spirra scored from two yards out and Valeira kicked the extra point.

Bridgewater-Raritan will seek its third victory when it plays home to Watchung Hills Regional High School on Thursday, September 22.
