Citizen Advisory Committee on School Start Times

Citizen Advisory Committee on School Start Times

Dear Members of the BRRSD Community,

The Board of Education recently passed a resolution calling for the formation of a Citizens Advisory Committee on School Start Times.  This group of representative stakeholders will examine options and present to the Board of Education, by June 2020, a plan to move the middle school and high school to later, healthier school start times while balancing the developmental needs of primary and intermediate school students.

It is the Board's goal to include association reps, staff members, community members, high school student(s), and Board members. We are working to keep the committee to no more than 20 individuals while still building a representative cross-section of community interest groups.

All interested stakeholders are encouraged to self-nominate.

For anyone interested in participating, we are asking for a commitment of 3-5 evening meetings between February and March for the development of the plan, with an understanding that the work may continue into April, a presence for the presentation to the Board of Education, and the willingness to take an active role in communicating the final recommendations of the committee.

The first meeting of the committee will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Wade building on March 3. The remaining meeting dates have yet to be confirmed, but we are looking to schedule meetings at 6:30 p.m. at the Wade Building, on either Mondays or Tuesdays in March and April. No meeting should last more than two hours.

Click here to self-nominate. The form will close at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18.

All nominees will receive a response no later than Monday, February 24.

Thank you.
