2020-06-19 Update - COVID-19 - Days 59, 60, and 61 - Tomorrow

2020-06-19 Update - COVID-19 - Days 59, 60, and 61 - Tomorrow

Good evening,

Counting next Monday and Tuesday, we will have completed 61 instructional days through Distance Learning. This represents more than a third of our academic year that our schools have been closed. Our methods have had to change, but we have worked hard, for you and with you, to ensure that we made the most of the year that was given us.

While the academic year is ending, our situation is not. We continue to work with state, county, and local officials and educators to prepare for summer and September. You will receive information on these plans, as well as surveys asking for your input as we move forward. Your input is critical, so please stay connected.

Below is important information to help you prepare for and navigate the coming weeks and months. Specific information will continue to come from your building administrators.

We have all been forced, against our wishes, through a year that required great change and great resolve. It has been inspiring to see this community rise to meet the situation and work together to keep everyone safe. While we have lost immensely, in experiences, opportunities, and people, there is a great deal that we have learned. We must make that learning count. It has come and continues to come at great cost. If there is any community that will find the learning and support growth, it is B-R.

I wish you a safe and rejuvenating summer.

  • 2020 Community Celebration - Tuesday, June 23, 2020, 8:20 p.m. (20:20 military time)
    • Add your voice to the community’s recognition of our graduating seniors.
  • Our high school team continues to prepare three separate possible in-person celebrations for July in the case that one is possible. This includes a meeting with the Somerset Patriots regarding the possibility of using their venue for a safe gathering. Given the changing restrictions, our goal is to get the largest number of students together at one time to celebrate their accomplishments. This may require multiple events. For this reason and having surveyed our students, we are asking families to keep the week of July 20, 2020, on their calendars. Specific dates and information will continue to come through the building.
  • Summer Resources
    • General resources to support continued learning over the summer will be added to our Distance Learning page next week. They will be available throughout the summer for students and families looking for ways to keep learning going. They are not required in any way; they are a resource for all. Returning students are not required to return any borrowed district technology so that they have access to these resources throughout the summer.
    • The Summer Reading Adventure will also be posted next week. Again, this is optional, but encouraged, as it was last year.
    • Required AP work is already posted on the HS website under the Student Resources tab.
  • District facilities continue to be closed until further notice. We are working with local vendors to determine if and how summer activities could be supported. Please look to those groups for information on any summer offerings.
  • As this pandemic is not over, all of our district and local resources continue to be accessible moving forward. Please go to our Distance Learning page to find what you need.

Stay safe,

Russell M. Lazovick
Superintendent of Schools
